If you ask any Zagreb supporter why does he/she support the club, everyone would have a different story to tell. But they all agree that the whole point of supporting your club is in having a good time, and at a same time in a worthy representation of your own club at your own and other stadiums, which includes a restrain from any form of hooliganism in the streets or the stadiums and confrontations with other supporter groups. White Angels truly represent their club, and the club shoud be proud of them the same way they are proud of it.
White Angels supporter group was founded in 1991. Although they haven't been formally there from the start, White Angels are wholly proud of Zagreb, from its founding in the year 1903. under the name of PNI K, the acronym for Prvi nogometni i športski klub (First football and sports club), as the first football club in Croatia. Primarily, supporters can be proud of the great results the club achieved since the Croatian football league was established. At its very start, Zagreb took one of the major roles in it. In the first year they could boast with the second place, and next two years were equally good. Two times have they lost the title (in 1992, 1993/1994) to Hajduk Split. In 1997. they played in a cup final and lost to Croatia. Zagreb has also been in situations where it had to fight to stay in the league, but managed to finish the season in a tenth place, securing the survival in the top league and recording its worse league position. Ten years since the start of the Croatian football league Zagreb had its best season. That year, 2001./2002. they took the title and secured their place in history as only the third club that ever did it. With that success it secured a Championship league qualifiying match. The draw had them play the Hungarian club ZTE. Away game was lost with minimal defeat and the last minutes of the home game (which was played at the Maksimir stadium) were fatal for Zagreb's ambitions. The 2:1 win wasnt enough and ZTE got to play Manchester Utd while Zagreb saw yet another early departure from European competitions. These European games are a weak spot for Zagreb. Especially painful is the memory of losig to Norwegian club Tromso in the Cup winner's cup (3:2/2:4), because Zagreb had the 3:0 home and a 2:1 away lead!
Many people will continue saying that Zagreb will be a small club forever. But it takes something to be a "great" small club. And Zagreb is exactly that. Every true fan of the white Zagreb colour would like to see Zagreb on the top more often, but perhaps that is the point. It is easy to get used to constant success, and that makes every victory a little less shiny. In this way, both the club and the supporters have something to aspire to and victories are a much sweeter thing. Somehow, the period of creation is the most beautiful one, and Zagreb is experiencing an emergence of even more stable and successful club and there is no reason to doubt that the future is white. A part of that future is undoubtedly a new stadium at Kranjčevićeva street which every White Angel dreams of.
History of Zagreb is inseparable from the Kranjčevićeva street (S.S. Kranjčević was a famous Croatian poet), and therefore the team's nickneme, "Pjesnici" ("Poets"). When the wooden stands of the stadium burned down in 1977. another nickname was added, "Pogorelci" ("Charred"). Zagreb was always a club from a Trešnjevka neighbourhood and any moving of the stadium would be an irreparable loss. All the White Angels dream to continue listening to the words of its anthem in Kranjčevićeva street: "...for a hundred years, in the poet's street...". Every visitor at Zagreb stadium can witness a football-oriented fair play atmosphere, and I believe that future times will bring more true White Angels. Perhaps Zagreb attracts you enough to decide to be a part of white future. One thing is certain: those who fall in love with Zagreb, stay with it forever.
Zagreb is calling!
